Overall, I don't quite feel ready to say Gavelkind is the best succession ever, or something of the sort, but like elective, it has its uses and is certainly the best in certain situations. Elective is good if you are using it to unite your dynasty when you don't have claims otherwise or just want a certain character to be your next ruler, it is also possible to game it and make your realm an autocracy.
